A Rarely Acknowledged But Realistic Strategy For Life
Do we always deserve what we get in life?
Most of us desire the best but frequently manage to convince ourselves that we don’t really deserve it.
And then we look elsewhere.
And decide to settle for less.
Less than we believed we wanted, anyway.
And this rarely acknowledged but realistic strategy for life brings with it certain consequences. The ability to declare our most beautiful dreams unattainable allows us to shift the focus of our attention to places seen but rarely noticed.
And in the slightly subdued world of second best there exists, should we decide to look closely enough, a different level of beauty. A beauty also accepting of its place and worth. But one with a healthy dose of reluctant resignation alongside, hopefully, an element of understanding.
Understanding that we all have to take responsibility for the way in which the world defines beauty. And also a level of accountability for everything that we decide to foolishly put on our own personal pedestals and worship.
And the irony of placing something so high that we ultimately decide it is out of our reach should not be ignored.
As people, we are taught to aim for perfection but end up settling for something less. And in so many ways this metaphor for life shows us exactly where the real beauty is to be found.
