Not Quite The Seven Ages Of Man
Not quite the seven ages of man.
But, as the current world pandemic appears to be driving so many of us back to nature and the attractions of a simpler way of life, it is possible that I may just have created a natural successor.
A unique and alternative interpretation of Shakespeare's famous “As You Like It” speech or Robert Smirke’s paintings. This also begins and ends with a version of helplessness, and for consistency, so do all of the stages in between. The 5 ages of garlic, featuring the helpless bulb, found, ignored and unloved in a dark corner of my kitchen, springing into life from adversity. All shapes and sizes, inclusive and non-discriminatory, acknowledged and recorded before their final trip to the end of the garden.
I fear neither words not paint will do justice to this left field and rather unconventional representation.
“All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely bulbs of sprouting garlic.”
