How Refreshing, How Beautiful Even
We all have the ability to do the right thing.
To develop good, honest values and to choose to live a life that reflects them. To decide to live with integrity, staying true to what we believe and how we feel. But often, especially when we have talked the talk, argued and clarified our feelings with friends and family, we forget to actually follow it up with actions, and allow ourselves to get bogged down with the mundanities of life.
This happens to most of us, frequently in many cases, if we are being honest with ourselves.
So how refreshing, how beautiful even, to spend some time with those that choose to be different. People that decide not just to hear and read about something unjust or devastating, not just to talk about it and argue it’s merits whenever an opportunity arises.
No.
These people decide to stand up and take action and ask those that govern to be accountable for their decisions and to actually listen to what people are telling them.
Because change does not happen unless those with power are forced to make it.
Yesterday, I marched alongside people like this. People who have, in many areas of society, sadly and unfairly become a target.
A target for those unwilling or unable to recognise their values and to do the right thing.
And despite the obstacles and intimidation involved, I joined them in risking my reputation for something that is worth believing in.
And I feel good about that.
The power of people with integrity can truly be overwhelming and inspiring at times.
